The Gatehouse is the remaining structure of one of the first brick built houses in the country. and boasting outstanding decoration, this was a structure that was meant to project power, prestige and wealth.

  • Rye House Gatehouse Assistant – welcoming members of the public to the view the insides of the magnificent listed building

Role: Assistant

Location/Facility: Rye House Gatehouse, Rye Road, Hoddesdon, Herts, EN11 0EH

Working with: Ranger Team North

Time commitment: Flexible, depending on opening hours of the site

Purpose: To open and staff the Gatehouse at Rye House giving information to visitors, taking donations, talking to the public about the history of the site and the park in general, and reporting any issues.

Details of role

  • To assist the Ranger Service by opening and closing of the building.

  • To provide a positive visitor experience for visitors to the park

  • To assist the Ranger Service with handling donations from visitors

  • To provide visitors with general information about the park

  • Uniform provided for periods of duty

Personal Attributes

  • Should be friendly and outgoing.

  • Can use own initiative, and deal responsibly with situations as they arise.

  • Self-reliant, motivated, committed and enthusiastic.

  • Able to be flexible and co-operative, willing and able to learn new skills and work as part of the team or alone as required.

  • Is good humoured and approachable.

  • Can use a “common sense” approach.

  • Should have an interest in history\local history\historic buildings.

  • To carry out tasks in line with the Authority’s policies and procedures including:
