Update 27/11/24
Broxbourne Old Mill and Meadows car park flooding. Network Rail have carried out some work on this site, but have more work to do. We’re discussing dates for this next phase with them.
We’re pleased that the work they have done so far has allowed us to open up an additional area of the car park and assess the damage that has been caused to Lee Valley Regional Park land.
We’re currently looking at reinstatement work for our land which will be carried out in a way that is sensitive to the existing wildlife and habitats.
Update 10/06/24
Closure of the bridge on outer the lock gates at East India Dock Basin. We’ve closed the walk way over the outer set of lock gates while we assess the condition of the substructure. To cross over please use the gantry bridge on the inner lock gates.
Update 06/06/24
Toilets at Broxbourne Old Mills and Meadows are currently closed. We’re sorry for the delay in getting these toilets reopened. Our work to fix the fault has shown that the problem with pipe work is more complicated than we’d anticipated. We’re now working on a further solution with new specialist contractors. We know this is frustrating for you and apologise for the delay, but please bear with us while we fix the problem.
Update 21/12/23
Waltham Cross Substation Works at River Lee Country Park. National Grid is enhancing and expanding the Waltham Cross Substation situated in the Fishers Green area of River Lee Country Park to meet the growing electricity demand in the region and facilitate the increased generation of renewable power from offshore wind sources. Originally approved in 2014 and temporarily paused due to a shift in energy demand, the project is now back on course due to heightened offshore wind goals. This initiative is part of the Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment program aimed at connecting 50GW of offshore wind by 2030. The initial phase of the project, scheduled for January to March 2024, involves carefully timed vegetation clearance around the substation. This is on National Grid land and has been timed to avoid disturbing bird nesting season. During this time, please expect increased traffic along the access road and HGVs using the route. The second phase of the project is set to begin in May 2024 and extend until 2028.

Update 19/10/23

Update 12/10/23
We are extremely disappointed to have just found out that Network Rail has postponed work scheduled for this week which would have stopped the flooding at Broxbourne Old Mill and Meadows and its car park.
We have been pressuring them to clear a blockage in a tunnel under the railway track at Broxbourne which has caused flooding for several years.
We have been doing everything in our power to ensure the work would be done and had been working with National Rail on ways that the blockage could be cleared carefully without damaging wildlife habitats. The work was originally planned for October 2022, was postponed to April this year and was then due to start today (Thursday 12 October).
The flooding prevents people visiting the park and using local businesses, especially the café, every winter. Each year the flooding worsens and has severely damaged the meadow, trees and a boardwalk. It’s imperative that it is cleared as quickly as possible.
We are in touch with Network Rail to find out why their plans have suddenly changed and to secure a new date for the works.
We will share information as we have it, but in the meantime If you’d like to discuss this please contact Network Rail on 03457 114 141 or online networkrail.co.uk/communities/contact-us
Update 29/09/23

Update 10/03/23
Works update on the flooding in Broxbourne Old Mill and Meadows car park. This is being caused by a blocked ditch and culvert which normally allows the water to drain from the meadows. The blockage is on land owned by Network Rail who are responsible for clearing it. Unfortunately Lee Valley Regional Park is unable to do anything to alleviate the issue. Network Rail, who need to do the works, which involve closing the railway line, had planned works for March 2023. Unfortunately, we’ve been advised that these works have been delayed and are now planned for September 2023. If you’d like to discuss this please contact Network Rail on 03457 114 141 or online at networkrail.co.uk/communities/contact-us. We apologise for the inconvenienced caused.
