Children's Learn to Skate courses

Learn to Skate course update

We're restarting our Learn to Skate courses from 2 November.

We've had to reduce the numbers that we can take on each set of courses. Taking this into account we've offered priority booking for the first six week block of courses to skaters who had their courses interrupted back in March.

Our next set of courses will be due to start in January 2021. If you'd like to know when they become available to book please keep an eye on our social media channels and website or sign up to our database.

These courses provide a safe, fun way for kids to learn the basics of skating and make new friends. The courses pave the way for more advanced ice skating tuition. These courses are for children aged 5 - 15 years old

Recording your success!

As well as skate hire and free entry to the public session straight after the lesson, you’ll receive a record of achievement booklet at the end of every Skate UK course. This helps the centre monitor your progress through the different levels. For a small fee, Skate UK certificates and sew-on badges can be bought at Box Office for each standard you achieve at a satisfactory level. We also sell Skate UK Star passport booklets for those skating at Bronze, Silver or Gold standard.

Useful information

Here are a few things to keep in mind to make your skating safe and comfortable:

  • You'll need to adhere to the Safe Skating Code which is on display around the rink.
  • Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of your class. Refunds can’t be given if you’re late.
  • Wear warm, comfortable clothing; gloves and socks are advisable.
  • If you need to borrow skates, go to Skate Hire and collect them then proceed to the rink side and wait for your class to start.
  • Please ensure you read our useful information page before attending your session.

Want to skate further?

Working through the Skate UK levels gives you a solid skating technique, one you can use in activities like ice hockey, figure skating, ice dance and synchronised skating. After Skate UK Level 10 you can also advance to Skate UK Star where you'll:

  • Learn the figure skating skills in the higher level NISA test system.
  • Have every lesson’s progress charted in a Skate UK Star Passport Book.
  • Choose figure skating or ice dance disciplines.
  • Progress through Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

Intensive school holidays courses

Participants can fit six weeks of regular Skate UK training into just five days! These intensive holiday Learn to Skate courses cover Skate UK Levels 1 and 2 and include the chance to practice during the public session, straight after the lesson. Find out more about our school holiday courses.
