50 years in the making
We’re marking 50 years since Lee Valley Regional Park began
Today the tapestry of award winning open spaces and world class sports venues provide hundreds of great days out– but it wasn’t always like that. Back in the 60s the Lee Valley was pock-marked with rubbish dumps, scrap metal yards, gravel pits and old industrial buildings.
The whole area has been transformed over the last 50 years. If you’re a regular visitor to the park or want to discover new places and spaces we’d love you to join in our 50th events and discover what the park has become.
We’re running our biggest ever series of free walks to bring the park to life. Check out our programme, just turn up and join our expert Rangers and Volunteers who’ll show you the nature, heritage and great sites which make the park so popular.
Alternatively join one of our cycle rides, fun family events, take part in our angling challenge, pitch a tent at the new Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite in Broxbourne, or enjoy Super Fresh Milk at Lee Valley Park Farms.
To celebrate we also have a range of special initiatives for schools including a new Plant Discovery Day, ‘Find 50’ competition and a Farm Discovery Week which gives the opportunity for schools to visit.
Find out more about about our 50th Anniversary Top Pick events happening this year. We look forward to seeing you in the park during our 50th!
