Fire is one of the most essential and basic requirements in survival and bushcraft, from signaling for rescue to cooking your favorite snacks and meals, the ability to light a fire is a key skill.
Over two days you will join our specialist instructor and learn all about how to select and prepare a safe fire site, find tinder materials from natural and man made sources, how to use a variety of cutting tools to prepare kindling and fuel before looking at a wide variety of lighting techniques and methods. We will then look at fire safety and management and safely extinguishing your fire.
When it comes to lighting your fire we will start with using the most modern of lighting methods including how to use a mobile phone or digital camera to light a fire, we will cover chemical, electrical, solar and percussive methods slowly moving back in time until we try the most primitive of fire lighting methods including traditional Flint and Steel and friction fire lighting using the bow drill.
