Car parking charges apply at some car parks in and around River Lee Country Park.
Listed in the Domesday Book of 1086, it’s safe to say that Broxbourne Old Mill is one very historic site! Over the centuries the mill changed hands and roles many times, and a catastrophic fire in 1949 means that today there’s little more than the 16th century floor still in existence.
Come and visit today, and you’ll feel the atmosphere of this special place, and the echoes of a thousand years of history. And whilst you take time for a relaxing drink, snack or meal at the Old Mill Retreat Café, you can also plan the rest of a perfect day.
Broxbourne Old Mill and Meadows is the ideal access point for all the attractions of River Lee Country Park. You can hire bikes, canoes and kayaks, open Thursday to Monday from Lee Valley Canoe Cycle. For more information visit lvcc.biz. Or maybe you’ll decide to take to the peaceful waters of the River Lee, with pedalos, rowing boats and electric craft for hire at the nearby Lee Valley Boat Centre.
If fishing’s your thing you can try your luck with a day ticket anytime in the open season. Or take a pleasant stroll along the towpath to the wetland habitat of Silvermeade, where you may spot a Water Voles and a host of other fascinating wildlife, including Muntjac deer.
